Crestwood Presbyterian Church - West 1200 Charter Colony Parkway, Chesterfield County, VA
In meetings with this growing multi-site Richmond congregation to discuss their new western campus, the word “retreat” and the phrase “looks like God’s house” surfaced over and over. The congregation wanted to complement rather than replicate the colonial brick building from their eastern location, so traditional forms and materials have been reinterpreted to provide welcoming, non-traditional architecture. The design recalls Christian themes through its use of light and the symbol of the cross.
Cox & Associates Architects designed the Master Plan to best take advantage of the rolling, 20 acres of woodland. The Master Plan includes an 800 seat Sanctuary, Fellowship Hall, Bookstore, Office, Education, Music Suite, Family Life Center, covered drop-off, parking areas, extensive outdoor recreation space and an Amphitheater. The site topography was utilized to disguise the bulk of the Family Life Center gym by tucking it into the grade.
A 23,000 square foot Phase I Facility includes an expandable multipurpose Fellowship/Worship Hall with an advanced A/V system, along with a commercial Kitchen, Family Life Center, Sunday School Classrooms and an Office Suite. A dramatic lantern provides ample light into the generous foyer leading to the Fellowship/Worship Hall.
