Dover Baptist Church – Heritage Hall, 635 Manakin Road, Manakin-Sabot, Goochland County, VA
This Fellowship Hall addition includes a covered drive-thru entry, formal lobby, toilet rooms, a commercial kitchen and storage. Folding partitions allow three classrooms to be formed along the perimeter of the Fellowship Hall with the central raised portion of the hall usable as a smaller fellowship space when the partitions are in place. The building is joined by a colonnade to the existing Sunday School Building.
Important infrastructure improvements were coordinated by Cox & Associates Architects as part of the project. Due to the limited drainfield area available to the church, a specialized septic system was designed, its location selected to allow for future expansion of the Sanctuary if required. A new well was also located and drilled as part of the construction.
In addition, Cox & Associates Architects advised Dover Baptist on how to upgrade the exterior of their existing Sunday School Building. The beige paint scheme was changed. The trim was repainted white to match the existing buildings, and the board and batten siding color was changed to a gray-green to better complement the existing brick colors. Slate gray colored shingles replaced the brown roofing. A new front porch provided a sense of entry. Panels added below replacement windows completed the look.
