Hanover Evangelical Friends Church, Mechanicsville, VA
This growing church found itself land rich and building poor. Their existing facilities did not accommodate the activities of the church and its mission outreach to the community. JT Cox & Associates Architects, PLC created a long range Master Plan for the church. Through a series of meetings, church members expressed their vision of the church for the future: its ministries and ultimate size. The Master Plan reflected the needed spaces for the desired ministries, including extra space for future, unforseen opportunities. With this information in hand, the church was able to confidently sell some of their property to help finance building projects.
As a first project, the existing Sanctuary was expanded. An expanded chancel area, new lighting, an AV balcony, and a place for a permanent project screen created a more functional and beautiful worship space.
Hanover Evangelical Friends Church operates the oldest and best preschool in the Mechanicsville area. As a second project, a preschool wing was added to house the preschool and double as Sunday School space. A new commercial grade kitchen allows for hot lunches and is also used by the church for their fellowship events. New Pavilions, highly visible from Mechanicsville Turnpike, mark the entrances to the Preschool and the Church. A Youth Multipurpose Room was added to the Gym/Fellowship Hall to allow for youth worship, fellowship, and Sunday School. An existing residential style kitchen has been reused for the Food Distribution Ministry, providing a permanent home for this vital ministry, while creating a more secure separation from the preschool operations.
